"The isolated community of about 400 people signed socio-economic agreements with the owner of an operating lead-zinc mine 85 kilometres from Faro and Cominco Ltd., a mining company doing exploration work.
With the agreements, the Ross River Kaska Dena who make up the majority of the residents, are looking to employment opportunities, training and economic benefits from the mining ventures in their traditional territory.
The village is a departure point for nearby hunting and mineral exploration out-camps in the east-central Yukon.
Clear-running creeks full of feisty Arctic grayling are well-known to fishermen. In the middle of the Robert Campbell Highway on the southeast bank of the Pelly River, Ross River is a good pit-stop, with the only service station along the Canol Road. Groceries, light mechanical services and supplies for the mining industry are available.
The village provides lodging, eateries and a campground, laundry, showers.
...the mid-July Ross River Dena Cultural Exchange. It`s a week of traditional cultural activities, including stick gambling, drumming, drum dancing, jigging, and storytelling. Traditional foods like caribou, salmon will be served."(Whitehorse Star Visitor Guide`97, P. 14)
